Miguel Ferreira

Senior Dance Culture Editor

14 years documenting Latin dance communities across Portugal, specializing in bachata and salsa events for mature adults

The dance floor doesn't care how old you are. What matters is showing up, moving with intention, and finding your people. I've spent over a decade helping dancers over 45 discover that this isn't about keeping up with younger crowds — it's about claiming a space where you actually belong.

Event Curation

14 years of organizing and analyzing dance events. I know what makes an event accessible, inclusive, and actually fun for mature dancers — and what doesn't work.

Adult Confidence Building

Understanding the unique challenges older adults face when starting dance. I've documented best practices for building confidence, dealing with self-doubt, and finding your rhythm as a mature beginner.

About Miguel

I'm a dance culture journalist and community organizer who's been deep in Portugal's Latin dance scene for over a decade. It all started in university when I stumbled into a bachata night in Lisboa — I was supposed to be doing research for a Cultural Studies paper, but I got hooked on the culture, the community, and the music.

What struck me then, and what still drives my work today, is that dance doesn't belong to any single age group. Yet when I started going to more events and talking to dancers over 45, I kept hearing the same thing: "I love this, but I feel like I don't belong here." That's wrong. It shouldn't feel that way.

Over the years, I've organized 120+ social dance events, worked with over 30 dance studios and cultural organizations, and interviewed hundreds of dancers. I've been dancing bachata and salsa myself for 16 years, so I understand both sides — the journalist's responsibility to report accurately, and the dancer's need for real, honest information about where to learn and where to dance.

At gildvane Unipessoal, Lda., I synthesize all that field experience into guides, event calendars, and resources that actually help older adults find their local dance communities. No hype, no fluff. Just real information about real classes and real events where you'll feel welcome.

I write because I believe that if you're curious about dance, you shouldn't have to guess whether a class is right for you or whether you'll fit in at an event. You deserve clear, honest information from someone who's actually been there.
